I don’t know about yourselves but I for one feel it is so important to incorporate some self care and mindfulness into your life, how often do we ever step back and think of ourselves?
Having driven past the Scarlet Hotel on numerous occasions but never venturing in, we couldn’t wait to experience the new Scarlet Daydream Retreat. It couldn’t of been better timed for a relax and wind down for both of us. We have been flat out for some time and in need of a some respite.
This adults only eco luxe beachfront hotel has 37 rooms that have all been specially designed to provide you with a relaxing environment. From the hotel’s menu to the spa treatments, the Scarlet feels like your home away from home that you will never want to leave.
Upon arrival, we were immediately drawn to the sea views from the reception.
The scarlet is based right above Mawgan Porth beach and boasts breathtaking views of the rugged Cornish coastline.
We were greeted by such welcoming and friendly staff who showed us down to the spa, as we walked down we got quick glimpses of the other luxurious areas of the hotel and what this incredible building has to offer. From the moment we walked down the stairs we were immediately engulfed by the beautiful scent of the spa. The spa doesn’t reveal itself to you but we were shown around and I was in complete awe of of the glass housed pool.
This particular retreat day commenced with a 60 minute yoga session with the incredible Ocean Flow Yoga (you can book classes with them in Newquay). It was amazing to practice yoga with the gentle sound of the waves crashing in the near distance. I am a true beginner at yoga but felt so at ease. The instructor, Jen, was fab at supporting you and correcting your position. It was the perfect start to the day leaving you feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. Stu found it hard to get in to it initially but got in to it after the mid-way break. It can be difficult to allow yourself to slow down.
Feeling calm and supple after yoga there was a guided daydream class. I have dabbled in the past with guided meditation but never really been successful. This daydream workshop was such a lovely way to wind down and really connect with your inner self, after getting nice and cosy and enjoying a herbal tea, we were asked to relax, look inward and envision our future goals.
It was so lovely to be able to actually let ourselves drift away from the day to day hustle and bustle and instead connect with what is truly important to us. Afterwards there was a short discussion on how we might achieve these goals. It was nice to share thoughts and experiences of the session with others and comforting to hear that everyone really benefitted from the day.
We were then left to our own devices to go and explore the spa in our fluffy robes and slippers. After a quick look around I decided to brave the natural pool outside. Completely chemical-free and being cleaned by its own living reeds, it was definitely on the chillier side but so refreshing.
We also chilled in the relaxation room snuggled up in one of their hanging pods and then onto the bed where you could get warm and cosy in a fleece blanket whilst looking out to sea.
After a short while we were called for our outdoor hot tub session. Conveniently coinciding with the sun coming out, we were lead down the winding pebble path to the wooden barrel hot tubs. Perfectly perched above the beach, you really can’t beat enjoying a glass of bubbles whilst watching the waves below. Our time in the tub flew by and before we went to lunch we enjoyed the outdoor sauna with its novel round window to watch the waves roll in.
Next was our healthy spa lunch, consisting of feta and courgette fritters, served with mixed herb hummus with crudités and fresh salsa, washed down with a fresh carrot and orange juice. These are specially designed to aid your digestion keeping the mind relaxed.
We sat for a while once we had eaten. It was nice to have no agenda and just unwind. Once we felt like our food had settled we finished off our excellent day with a dip in the indoor pool and spent a short while in the steam room.
Thank you to all the staff at the scarlet for making our experience so special.
